Hi, i am chasing any information on any current sightings in northern australia. I actually saw a thylacine on the 05/05/07 in Queensland. I spoke to a friend who also saw a mother, father and 2 juveniles about 20 years ago in Qld as well. He got to within 10 metres of them after returning from a walk to his camp in the middle of the night. Unfortunately, he only had a spotlight and not a camera. He has researched the thylacine extensively and talked to a crocodile hunter back from the crocodile hunting days who claims he had three definite sightings and one possible sighting. My friend also has a map of where these three sightings were. So,if anyone can help me, i would greatly appreciate it and please feel free to contact me. My email is geoffjy@yahoo.com.au.

Interesting case Jeff. This link has an account of a sighting in Qld. http://www.yowiehunters.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=908&Itemid=63 Can you tell us any more about the circumstances of your own experience? Was it in this southeast sector of Qld?

The thylacine i encountered as well as the other sighting of my friend, occurred in Cape York. I was driving on a road in Cape York on the 05/05/07 when i encountered a strange animal on the road with strange black markings on its back and looked like a large cat but with a long thick tail. I noted that the bars on its back didnt run all the way down the side of the animal and that the tail was unusually long and thick at the base. I didnt know what this animal was until a week ago when i was on Ebay and saw a national geographic with a thylacine on the front. The animal i saw looked exactly like the one on the cover except the one i saw had a lighter tan colour.------------------ geoff young IP: Logged |

Geoff, any chance these could have been sightings of the Queensland Tiger? This is a mysterious animal that has many reports from Northern Queensland and has stripes, etc.IP: Logged |

Hi Quollfan, I was unaware there was a Qld Tiger but have just did a bit of reading on them and the only way to really tell them from thylacine is their catlike head. With the sighting i had last year, i didnt see the head, only the last half of the body.So it may very well have been a Qld Tiger.IP: Logged |
