Id just like to report a possible sighting I had in late Feb 2007 along the Great Ocean Road
It was a sunny clear evening around 8pm and my sighting lasted for only about 5 sec. We came around a sharp corner and caught a short glimps of a larger animal very sleek and slender but fit looking rather than skinny and frail. I was only able to catch sight of the overall colour which was tan and a marking to the tip of the tail. I cannot confirm any other body markings due to the fact it was over so quickly. It moved very fast and nimbly off the road and down the steep ocean side with great ease and skill.
I would just like to know if anyone has heard of a sighting in these areas?
cheers Rob.

Interesting report; yes I've heard of a few sightings in the Otways but there never seems to be 2 in the same place. The sightings I've heard of seem to be all over the place.
I'm going along the Great Ocean Road next week; can you give me a closer indication of where the sighting occurred?

it was around the Wye River area.
to be a bit more specific, on the great ocean road around 1km immediately once you have driven past the town of Wye River.
hope this helps and good luck

Thanks for that. Wye River is not that far from Lorne, and I recall Melbourne comedian Dave Hughes describing a thylacine sighting just outside Lorne in recent years. The Otways was fortunate to be one of the areas to escape the fires over the summer so the anaimals in the area are safe at least for another year.
He could have been joking of course, and it is April Fools day today!
But the fact remains that there is a lot of bush in the otways.
