Has a thylacine ever shown strange behaviors, such as "pawing" the ground with it's back feet, almost like a bull would, or made themselves seem larger, and walked even more stifly when threatened? Thanks IP: Logged |

Hello Thylae, While I personally can not answer your question, I can suggest a book which may help.It is titled "The Last Tasmanian Tiger The History and Extinction of the Thylacine" Published by Cambridge University Press, 2000 and written by Robert Paddle. IP: Logged |

I've not heard of them pawing the ground, making themselves appear larger, or walking more stiffly.Paddle's book suggests that when threatened, the tuft of hair on the tip of the tail becomes erect. There are some good photos of juvenile thylacines showing this. Also, the yawn is actually a threat display. Paddle also argues that the classic photo showing mother with three pups demonstrates the mother being actively submissive to one of them by allowing the pup to place its head on top of hers. As with the previous poster - I recommend this book for an analysis of the Tasmanian tiger's behaviours. IP: Logged | |
